This website is implemented on the open source XML database platform eXist-db. All data is held as XML documents which are stored, updated, retrieved and transformed using the XQuery language

JavaScript is also widely used, especially with the JavaScript Google Map API, to generate maps.

The website has been developed over the past 7 years by a solo developer, Chris Wallace, a retired unversity computing lecturer.
