This is a significant tree, highly visible to the public and a considerable amenity.
I cannot find the history of the TPO. There are two earlier applications to work on the tree, in 2015 and 2020. Both of these involved the removal/shortening of branches overhanging neighbouring properties. Maybe the neighbours don’t like the tree. It is a great shame to lose such a splendid tree. I presume there was a much earlier application to fell it, which is when it earned its TPO, as it is so prominent. It may be in a back garden but the back garden has a road at its boundary that other properties front on to. There are not many significant trees locally. Trees have Protection Orders for a reason. Would a crown reduction save the tree and solve the problem?
We often do not comment on back garden trees as they are difficult to "save", but this back garden "fronts" onto another road, which is presumably how it earned its TPO in the first place.
