On balance I object to the removal of the Sycamore in the front garden because we need mature trees now. It is a significant tree in the road, being in a front garden and right on the border between pavement and front garden boundary. It is multi-stemmed so may have been coppiced. It has also been topped/pollarded in the past, so does not have the typical form of a Sycamore, though it is not bad. Whether it would merit a TPO to save it is up to the professional expertise of the LPA Tree Officer. A Liquidamber is an attractive tree, and more erect in habit, but it would take a long time for one to replace the ecological and environmental benefit this tree provides now. Maybe succession planting would be a better bet for the environment and visual amenity. This Sycamore absorbs an awful lot of water each year.
