This tree is prominent in the road – right on the front garden boundary with the pavement. There is no doubt about it being a widely seen public visual amenity. The wall is apparently intact. The tree’s health is difficult to judge just now as it is not yet in leaf. It is a mature tree, unlikely to be as old as the one in nearby Old Sneed Avenue, which is the “last tree standing” of the original planting. But Silver Birch can live to an old age, and this one has more to give yet. It has dignity. The crown looks to be a good shape. It is worth keeping this tree for its amenity function. And of course there is its environmental benefit – we need every mature tree we have to save us.
