This is a splendid tree visible to many. It is probably too large and should be awarded a TPO and then reduced in size. Saying that things might happen is not really a good reason to fell a tree. Every tree is precious. Mature trees are more important than car parking spaces and are certainly of more benefit to the environment and the visual amenity.
