It looks like this tree has been in decline since extensive ground works were undertaken in early 2018 (query - were the roots protected?). It has now died.
Kites Enterprises Limited have stated 'The building works may have contributed to the demise of the tree. However we did take professional advice before the works and the excavations in that corner were carefully supervised and no significant roots were exposed. Indeed the installation was designed with the root bundle of the tree in mind. I attended every site meeting and the tree was always prominent on the agenda.
No-one is more sad about this than we are but we have given it as long as we reasonably can and need to be mindful of the H&S implication of such a large tree in demise.'
It will be replaced.
