This Ash tree has a high public amenity value and needs to be protected - it is in a prominent street position and significantly adds to character of the area. It is also providing important environmental and ecological services by helping to absorb CO2 and other pollutants and improving the local climate. Given the volume of traffic at this location, its presence offers an important mitigation to the effects of pollution.
The tree appears to be in good condition with no sign of Ash Dieback (ADB). It is particularly important that health Ash trees are preserved wherever possible given the likely impact of ABD. The owner's wish to improve the light levels can be managed my prudent management by a competent tree surgeon. There is no need to fell it.
In all the circumstances, the tree should be protected with a Tree Preservation Order.

This Ash tree is in a prominent street position and significantly adds to the greencharacter of the area. Its contribution to absorbing CO2 and pollution and improving the localclimate is likely to be high given the frequent queues of traffic which are at the traffic lights with theGloucester road. The tree appears to be in good condition with no sign of dieback and thus hashigher value to the area with so many Ash trees dying. The owners issue of improving the lightlevel could be achieved by tree surgery work such as crown thinning, reduction or lifting, withoutthe loss of amenity to the area. The canopy of Ash trees is semi translucent so does not provideheavy shade to the property. RCAS requests that tree surgery options are considered instead ofremoval.
