We object to this application. 1. The arboricultural evidence • Our DM17/BTRS calculations are interim, as the stem diameters of the trees surveyed in November 2024 are not credible when compared with the same trees’ stem diameters in the 2020 survey. Only seven of the trees surveyed have grown, while one has shrunk its stem diameter. The applicant needs to explain this anomaly. • The applicant has not stated the number of trees in groups being removed. This information is essential for making an accurate BTRS calculation. 2. Biodiversity net gain • The applicant should be required to use the Statutory BNG Metric regime which came into force on 14 February 2024, before the date of this application. • The BNG 3.0 Metric calculation of the area of Urban Tree habitat, one of the most important habitats on the site, is flawed. This flaw has resulted in the applicant’s underestimating the value of the baseline habitats. • Woodland and forest habitat has been incorrectly designated as Heathland and scrub habitat. • Some tree groups are only partially within the redline area but we are unable to say by how much. This needs to be clarified. • There is insufficient information to allow a final calculation of the biodiversity net gain. On current evidence, the applicant’s proposals will result in a net loss of 39.03% of area habitat units, as well as breaches of the trading rules.
